In 1998, Grant founded the Internet Search Company GlobalBrain.net that was acquired by NBCi and at one point had the 7th most visited web site in the USA. Globalbrain.net now operates as SLI-Systems Inc, with Grant serving as Non-Executive Chairman. He is on the board of the New Zealand Government's $100 million Venture Investment Fund (VIF) and the Foundation for Research Science and Technology which allocates over $400 million per year. Grant also founded Social Networking company RealContacts in 2001. He has a degree in Engineering and a PhD in Ecological Economics from the University of Canterbury.
